Blessed to be adopted

Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Rom. 8:14

Although all human beings were created by God, only a handful are His sons and daughters. Sin, which led to the fall of man resulted in God disowning us and our relationship with God was broken. God in His mercy, however, provided a path for us to be reconciled to Him by giving us His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our sin bearer.

To all who received Him … He gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12. Only those who have believed in Christ are adopted into the family of God. Sadly, only a handful have responded so far.

Track a bit here with me: World population is almost 8 billion and Christians of all shades account for 2.5b or 32%. When you shred off the Christian cults, Christians who do not practice their faith, etc. you are left with about 900 million Christians, or 11% of the world population. How many of these 900 million are really sons and daughters of God? What qualifies one to be a child of God is not participation in Christian religious activities, it is not a claim to having prayed the sinner’s prayer and asking Jesus into your heart. The real test is the residency and lordship of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Only “those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God”. So, how can you know?

  1. Spirit of God bears witness with your spirit that you are a child of God (Rom. 8:16).
  2. Bear the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22)
  3. Pursue holiness 1Pt. 1:15
