And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19)
This verse is very encouraging, and believers reference it frequently. The problem, however, is that it is often taken out of context or wrongly applied. Paul, in the course of the ministry God called him to do, admitted the challenge of inconsistent support from brethren. Sometimes he had plenty, and at other times he had nothing, but he learned the secret of being content no matter what! When I am not where God wants me to be, and I am not doing what He wants me to do, I cannot claim our verse for today and expect God to empower me to do what I want and not what He wants. Most of God’s promises are conditional and generic. I must, first of all, fulfill the conditions required, and secondly, get a confirmation from God that the generic promise I am claiming has my name on it. That is what it means to ask according to God’s will and not my will.
