Solitude is an indispensable discipline for believers who want to remain Christ-centered and glorify God in their lives. Solitude is a lost art in our fast and busy world. Sadly, even many gospel ministers confess to the pressure and ministry demands that they cannot devote an hour a day to solitude with the Lord. No one can connect with God if they cannot pause to listen to their hearts and the heart of God. We have all been infected by the instant and fast pace of life in our digital world. Jesus demonstrated how to stay in tune with the Father by being an early riser and withdrawing to spend time with the Father alone (Mark 1:35), and even while ministering in the daytime, He will withdraw from the crowd for a quiet time with the Father (Luke 5:15-16). At the end of the day, He will withdraw and sometimes spend all night with the Father (Mat. 14:23, Lk 6:12). Psalm 46:10 invites us to “Be still and know that I am God.” If we cannot be still before God, we will not hear His still, small voice. Have you not been hearing from God recently? It is time to schedule times of solitude.
