And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deut. 10:12.
The God of Israel is the true God, Creator and Ruler over all His creation. He is the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and He is the one we worship. What he required of the children of Israel as quoted above in Deut. 10:12 is still what He requires of us today.
1. Fear Him
We are to reverence God and hold Him in high esteem because He made us and owns our very lives.
2. Walk in His Ways
God revealed Himself in Jesus Christ and in His Word. Read the Bible daily and do exactly what it says. The good news is that God helps us through the Holy Spirit to do everything He asks us to do.
3. Love Him
Loving God is voluntary, and it is beyond mere feelings, emotions, attraction, etc. True test that we love God is that we obey everything He says.
4. Serve the Lord
He is our Lord and Master and we are totally devoted to Him. We have no other master and we are not serving ourselves. We serve God with all our hearts and souls – willingly and joyfully.
We carry out all these four requirements not only that we will be saved but also because we are already saved through Christ’s atoning sacrifice. Doing what God requires of us is a token appreciation for what He has done for us. Is that you? If so, praise the Lord!
