The funeral service for Naomi will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016

Naomi Ruth (Riggie) Covel was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 1, 2016, while at home, surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 20, 1944 in Midland, to Edward and Dorothy (Skym) Riggie. She married David Covel on June 10, 1967. Naomi grew up on a small farm west of Midland. She attended the Homer United Methodist Church as a child and was active in the youth department. As a child she placed her faith in Jesus. She began her education at Windover Elementary School and graduated from Midland High School in 1962. She continued her education at Spring Arbor College, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in education. She used her education to teach elementary school for 10 years.

Naomi was very active as a member of the Midland Free Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in the children's department as a Joybell teacher, Children's Church leader and department director. She also coached the high school Bible quiz team for 13 years as they earned many conference trophies. For the last few years she has been the church librarian and co-director of the Prime Time Luncheons.

She loved the Lord above all else, and then her loving husband and their family. She tried to serve the Lord in every area of her life. Her legacy is found in her three children, their spouses, and grandchildren who are serving the Lord today.

Naomi loved to read and attended local Bible studies. Additionally, she enjoyed cooking, camping, traveling, arts and crafts, and decorating her house for each season.

Naomi is survived by her husband, David; their three children, Laura (Douglas) Kipfmiller, Amie Covel and Mark (Sara) Covel. She was proud of her seven grandchildren: PawSay, Caleb, Joshua, Stephen, JoAnna, Jared and Hannah. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Maxine Covel; and her five brothers and sisters.
