Appeal Filed in Sudan

On January 29th, Petr Jezek was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sudanese court. On the same day, Sudanese believers Hassan Kodi and Abdulmonem Abdumawla were each sentenced to 12 years in prison.  The false charges of which the men were convicted include documenting of alleged human rights violations by Sudan and inciting war against the state.  Lawyers for Hassan, Abdulmonem and Petr submitted their appeal letter and the required documents to the Supreme Court in Khartoum on Feb. 8. The lawyers must now wait until the Supreme Court judge calls them in for discussions. Meanwhile, Hassan and Abdulmonem have been moved to Kober prison in the Bahari district of Khartoum. It is still unclear whether Petr has also been moved. Hassan’s mother and daughter, who had initially taken the news of the sentence very badly, are doing better now. “They still have hope in the Lord” said the source. Please continue to pray for the Lord’s grace and encouragement to all involved, and for a favorable outcome to their appeal before the Supreme Court.

We pray, Father, Your hand of protection over Petr Jezek, Hassan Kodi and Abdulmonem Abdumawla as they await their next court date to consider their appeal. Comfort them and grant them peace, knowing that whatever happens on this earth, You are with them and Your people are surrounding them with prayer. We pray for their families who are left to face life without them for now. Sustain them, Father, with shelter and food and hope. We plead on their behalf before Your Your throne of grace, that You will bring about true justice and the release of these men. We pray these things in the name of Jesus, in whose steadfast love we rest our hope. Amen.
