When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom. Job 1:5
With a record number of youth and young adults leaving the Church every year, every parent must be genuinely concerned. While some parents have given up on their children, others are holding up because of the inspiration of people like Job. Job had 10 adult children who loved to party every month. Job knew the fact that partying with social drinking has sin in company.
Sin is inevitable whenever we are out to please ourselves and not the Lord.
Job did what he could do – Pray.
Although his adult kids were fully responsible for their choices now, Job’s responsibilities as the priest of his household is a lifelong commitment. The fact that the 10 kids got along with each other shows that they were good kids; but Job will not take any chances for possible sin in word, thought or deed they might have committed. He faithfully offered sacrifices and prayers after every party.
If all Christian parents will take on their priestly roles (now opened to all the saints: 1 Peter 2:9) and intercede fervently for their children (young and old), I believe the destiny of many will be altered for good. Are you praying or complaining about your kids?
