Cultural Christianity and Disingenuous Moral Outrage

by

Biblical Christianity—relies on the Bible to understand true faith. It is counter to cultural Christianity, which does not truly adhere to the faith or the Bible. Biblical Christianity bases its doctrine on the Bible alone.

Cultural Christianity—may be based on family background, personal experience, country of residence, or social environment—what the Bible says is secondary. Cultural Christianity produces nominal believers who label themselves as Christians but who allow culture to define their convictions.

Cultural Christianity and Disingenuous Moral Outrage

Biblical Christianity produces true believers who use God’s Word to understand salvation and what it means to be a Christian.

Many are projecting concern over Disney’s opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act. The new law prevents grooming kindergartners through third graders as it opposes classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity. It is encouraging to see Cultural Christians take God’s side against perversion and admonish Disney in the process. However, why now? How long will it last? Disney has been indoctrinating kids for years when it comes to alternative lifestyles and gender design.

Disingenuous Moral Outrage

For at least the past decade, Disney has been incorporating LGBTQ themes into its programming. The indoctrination can be found in Disney Plus, Star Wars, and Marvel. In many ways, Disney has been at the forefront of LGBTQ propaganda.

Yet, in general, American Christianity has continually displayed poor discernment. Lack of judgement is a surface problem that springs from a heart issue. Over the years, there have been times when the American Cultural Christian Church wailed against inappropriate entertainment only to pick up active engagement again in days, weeks, or months. The price of not participating is inconvenient. Following Christ comes at a cost (Luke 14:27-18), a cost that Cultural Christians are not willing to pay.

At the end of the day, the American Cultural Christian has been complicit in upholding and promoting the wars on children and Judeo-Christian values. It is impossible to plead ignorance at this phase in U.S. degeneration.

Lukewarm and Complicit

As such, Disney is not the real problem. The issue lies within Cultural Christianity’s promotion of American popular culture. The group spends billions of dollars for services that incorporate antichrist spirits. For instance, talk to the average churchgoer about canceling his Netflix subscription, and red faces will permeate through the conversation. Even though Netflix mocks Christ, pushes porn, and promotes pedophilia on various levels, most Cultural Christians feel justified in seeking pleasure from this questionable source. Many will invoke “God’s grace” into the conversation…an unfortunate and distorted view of Yahweh’s long-suffering and love.

Another example is the secular celebration of the Super Bowl. Year after year, complaints are made about commercials and the halftime show’s explicit content, but these grievances are short-lived as professing Cultural Christians continue to tune in. Regardless of the raunch that targets viewing families, many who claim Christ support the event through viewership.

Christ’s High Calling

Following Christ comes at a price, and it comes with decisions. He was unequivocal in presenting this reality, and He conveyed His truth in love. Christ proclaimed that most will travel through the wide gate of destruction. Only a few will find the narrow gate that leads to life (Matthew 7:13-14). We should praise Him for giving us a loving assessment of reality.

While we are far from perfect during our sanctification process here in this temporary existence, we are to strive toward Christ’s holiness. This endeavor is impossible when we actively engage and support the world’s debauchery. It is hypocritical.

As I conclude this musing, I implore those who proclaim the faith to complete a “heart check.” Are you a Cultural Christian, or are you a Biblical Christian? How do you want to finish the race? Does the current trend of your life exhibit following popular culture, or does it reflect devotion to Christ and His ways?

Matthew 7:13-14

“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Luke 14:27-28

“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?”

John 14:21

“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.

James 1:21-25

Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

If you are reading this, I encourage you to engage Scripture daily and look only to Jesus.
