Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? Job 28:20 NIV
The 28th chapter of Job is very interesting. In the middle of Job’s defense to his friends, suddenly there is this chapter that discusses wisdom, and where it might be found.
Job starts by describing mining operations. That humans have tunneled deep within the earth where no beast or bird ever goes. Nothing on earth is hidden from us. But where can wisdom and understanding be found?
Following this is a discussion of the worth of wisdom and understanding. They have value beyond any price. Yet where can they be found? God alone knows the way to wisdom and understanding.
Job closes this discussion by saying “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding” (Job 28:28). Wisdom and understanding cannot be found apart from fearing the Lord and walking with him. While many other sources will claim to be able to impart wisdom and understanding. But they are only a pale imitation of the true wisdom and understanding that comes from God alone.
