This verse is not ‘hate speech’ but a true diagnosis of the state of man since the fall. We cannot fathom how much we lost when we defaced the image of God in us. The perfect, sinless, and good man God created became a monster with an evil heart. “There is no one righteous, not even one.” (Rom. 3:10). All the wars fought resulting in the loss of millions of lives have been started and fanned by hearts that are evil. Corruption, oppression, rape, stealing, fights, envy, and jealousy are all symptoms of our evil hearts. No one can cure our defective hearts except God who created us. God gave up on trying to fix hearts, instead, He does heart transplants, and this is the good news. ”I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh” (Eze. 36:26). Enjoy your new heart and a fresh start with God.
