Every one of us has a scar on our body following an accidental or intentional bruising of the skin. These scars are reminders of past experiences we delight in replaying constantly or memories we wish to delete if we could permanently. God could have decreed healing without any residual physical or emotional scars. When Jesus rose from the dead, He had scars on His hands, feet, and abdomen. A songwriter claimed that the only thing made by humans that will be in heaven are the scars on Jesus Christ. If that is true, then the scars on Jesus will be eternal reminders of His love for us. Paul’s desire to live for Jesus led him to declare, “I bear in my body scars from my service to Jesus” (Gal. 6:17b). The greatest scar anyone can bear is a broken spirit, a life surrendered to Christ’s lordship and devoted to proclaiming the gospel and serving others out of love. If you live this kind of life, scars are guaranteed for you, which could be spiritual, physical, or emotional. Take delight in your scars for the Lord today.
